The Ben Osborn Memorial Fund

Scholarships

October 10, 2015

Every year the Ben Osborn Memorial Fund, Inc. awards scholarships to local high school students who are pursuing further academic studies or trade school training.  In each of the ten school districts that the Fund collaborates with, two students are chosen to receive the $500 scholarship.  Award recipients are chosen based on submission of an essay on patriotism or service and “possessing the criteria of good character, charitable heart, current need, commitment to self-improvement and being service oriented.”

We caught up with one of the 2015 recipients from Glens Falls High School, eighteen year old Hannah Wakeley at SUNY Adirondack.  Hannah graduated from GFHS and is pursuing an undergraduate degree at SUNY Adirondack in Media Arts.  Currently she has a full class load including math, English, photography, graphics arts and a media arts class.  She has been involved in Warren County 4-H, a member of the GFHS Varsity Girls Swim Team, and serves as a Youth Elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Glens Falls.

“I was very pleasantly surprised but I felt thankful they chose me to be the recipient of the scholarship I received at graduation,” said Hannah.  “I was honored.”

Interested senior high school students are invited to visit the website at www.benosbornfund.org/scholarship and download the scholarship application.  Applications and essays should be directed to the students’ guidance department or scholarship committees of the participating schools.
